Playback singer Kavita Seth finds herself recording a chant for the Ganesh festival. Saregama recently has released a uniqueGanesh Mantra Chant, the Ganesh Mantra in the divine voice of Kavita Seth with music produced by Kanishk Seth. Floating in a blissful space and attaining a peaceful meditative state is all that the mantra will do to you. Close your eyes and feel your soul as Kavita Seth mesmerizes you with her chant.  

Known to perform some amazing Ghazals and Sufi music, Kavita is also the recipient of the Filmfare award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2010 for her classical Sufi rendition "Gunja Sa Koi Iktara" for the film 'Wake up Sid' (2009) a song which was one of the biggest chartbusters in 2009.

Widely traveled, Kavita specializes in Sufi - style singing, though she also sings geet, ghazal and folk songs. Over the years she has performed at live shows all over the world and places across India. She is presently working on her sixth album.

Verus Ferreira spoke to the demure singer to find out more about her Ganesh chant.

How did you decide to record a song for the Ganesh festival?

Festivals are a beautiful way of celebrating life, a gift by God. It is my way of making people feel the divine power and becoming one with God. My voice is God's gift to me. Sharing a Ganesh Dhun with music lovers is a great way for me to spread the love during the festival.

As a Sufi singer and Bollywood playback singer have you done any earlier work on spiritual music?

We released Om and Krishna Mantra a soulful chant in 2012. Also my work usually is Sufi with a spiritual feel.

Are you a very religious person?

Music is my religion. I believe in a supreme energy and power. While singing also I submit myself to the divine and loose myself at most times.

How do you celebrate the Ganesh festival with your family?

We visit our friends, eat delicious sweets and celebrate life.

What do you think of the current Sufi music today?

The use of the words 'Maula' and 'Khuda' have been wrongly associated with it being a Sufi song. Very few songs have the soul intact. Sufi music traditionally will make you connect with divine power.

What are you working on right now, besides this devotional song?

I am coming up with a new album very soon which will be a unique blend of two magical forms of music, Trance and Sufi. Will share more details soon.

You have performed all over the world, any tours coming up?

I have performed at over 500 venues over the world. No tour that I can speak of right now. Will be performing on the 12th September in Mumbai for Hurt Foundation at Nehru Center.
