“I want to be able to communicate to my fans”: DJ Chetas

DJ Chetas is ranked World No. 59 on the DJ MAG Top 100 DJs list and is ranked India's No.1 Bollywood DJ. He is the only DJ in Indian History to crack into the prestigious DJ MAG awards. He is the only Indian DJ to host a 2 hour show at prime time on 9XM every Friday and Saturday called House of Dance. He's the Official DJ for the Kolkata Knight Riders and also the only Indian DJ with a Mobile Application promoting dance music to the masses. He's performed alongside leading artists and at some of the country’s most prestigious events. He recently announced that he will be entering the Bollywood music industry as a music composer very soon.

DJ Chetas' musical journey dates back eleven years, when he started off his career just as a passion for the love of music, little did he know that this passion would transcend into an art possessed by very few Artists world over. After eleven years of unmatched and dedicated hard work, his talent was recognized by www.myfavdj.in wherein voters and music lovers across the nation voted DJ Chetas unanimously as their Favorite Bollywood DJ and got him to the No.1 Spot in India.

DJ Chetas is one of the first Indian DJ's to understand that the crowds are looking for more than just a musical experience, they want a visual drama in front of them with Entertainers, Musicians and of course their favorite DJ, this realization gave birth to the country’s most professional DJ entourage – Life is a Mashup.

Verus Ferreira met up with the DJ to know more about what he is up to besides Deejaying.

Why have you decided to Tinder?

I want a direct mode of communication to be able to communicate with my fans who genuinely want to speak with me. I want to use Tinder as a medium to possibly test run some of my new music. I'm going to be sending over a lot of unreleased music to fans for their opinion. I'm continuously playing gigs in different cities. This is a great way to know first-hand what the crowd there likes in terms of music, which are the current trending tracks in the city, so that I can work my set accordingly!

Of the current chartbusting songs, which ones do you Swipe Right on your playlist?

I'm a Bollywood enthusiast, some of my current favorites are: Kala Chashma, Sau Aasman, Tere Sang Yaara, Baby Ko Bass Pasand, Lag Jaa Gale.

What tips would you give women on Tinder?

Don't be afraid to make the first move, a man loves a confident girl! Do a thorough check of your Facebook interests, you don't want the choices you made when you were 14 to still reflect what you've grown to become unless of course you haven't changed one bit! I'm still quite new to Tinder and still getting used to it, but I have a friend who uses it just for good conversations. Yes, such guys do exist, don't miss out on them!

What tips do you have for men on the app?

Be confident, be genuine and be sensitive! Clean up your profile to define who you really are. I've seen people message my friends on Facebook and Instagram saying they saw the profile on Tinder and want to connect. If she wants to speak with you she will Swipe Right, don't invade her privacy.

You also have your own school of music, teaching Deejaying to youngsters. Comment.

Yes this began in January this year and I associate myself with DJ Nasha. So we have a two month course, thrice a week with each session of two hours. We use the best equipment in the industry and also teach out students the latest available techniques happening in the market to keep them abreast of the changing times.

What are your upcoming international concerts?

There’s many lined up in the UK, Australia and Hong Kong but details can't be disclosed yet. I did a really cool gig with Tinder in Delhi on the 28th of August at Lord of the Drinks, it wasn’t short of an International gig, and I vouch for that.

What are you most looking forward to in the next few months?

A couple of original songs will be releasing soon, an album with my latest remixes. Break-up mash-up 2 is also on its way. Top 100 DJs polls are on-going, and I’m hoping to represent India at a higher rank this time!
