Time for Dance and Music enthusiasts to rejoice! Bollywood ace choreographer Sandip Soparrkar celebrated “India’s First Dance Week” - an experience of lifetime with the best dance acts across the world. The festival had a variety of dance competitions like Folk Dance, Classical Dance, Couple Dance, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Bollywood Dance- one dance form being performed each day by contestants who have qualified the auditions.
On the day of opening ceremony, the event witnessed a variety of folk dance forms like Lavni, Bhangda, Rajasthani Ghumro, Arabic Belly dance, Georgian dance Acharuli, Gramho from Bengal, Mallyali folk dance Pulluvathy and many other unseen folk cultures from around the world. Bollywood legendary Choreographer Saroj Khan was seen shaking a leg with Sandip Soparrkar and childrens' on her famous Bollywood tunes on audiences' demand. Saroj Khan said, “This is unique kind of Dance week celebration. I have never seen this in India.” Dance maestro Deepak Majumdar, Brian Fernandes and Vijayshree Chaudhary were seen sharing their valuable feedback on each performance as judges.
Sandip Soparrkar was seen encouraging the mentally challenged people from Advitya Foundation and was seen dancing with them. He said, “I feel honoured to be the face of this wonderful concept that brings all dancers together on the floor without keeping any differences about their forms. I am sure with the support of expert panel, this dance week will be a memorable week for all dance lovers and enthusiasts. I hope I'm able to do justice with my position and I wish to fulfill the expectations of all dance lovers as the brand ambassador of this Dance Week.”
The place was flooded with dance lovers showing off their well-practiced moves. Dancers were having an enjoyable time and didn't budge to leave till the last track was played. The audience too was very impressive and encouraging.
India’s first ever Dance week held from 25th to 29th April 2014 and saw participants coming from cities like Jammu, Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Haridwar, Pune, Nasik as well as different parts of Mumbai to perform on various genres of dance forms on different days. The festival rocked Mumbai at Phoenix Market City Kurla, which was grand success where more than 500 dancers participatiing.
The winners of the series, Kadam & Raina Parekh a couple from Ahmedabad who showcased a splendid Indian classical dance - Kathak won an international Holiday to Thailand. The couple was presented the prize by Sandip Soparrkar and awarded by yesteryear Bollywood actress, Vidya Sinha, who was also the chief guest for the closing ceremony. The other winners in each dance category were also awarded with free shopping vouchers and exciting gift hampers by celebrities like Alesia Raut, Abhishekh Avasthi, Shibani Kashyap, Rajneesh Duggal, Pragya Yadav, Dev Balani, Kalpana Gandhi, Ananya Dutta and Rohit Verma who also added the extra oomph and glamour to the evening. Television stars Jassi Kaur and Amit Dolawat were even seen shaking a leg on the tune of Bollywood song. The five day long celebration of Dance Week concluded on the International Dance Day with the most popular dance style in India- Bollywood.
