Gitika Pohen: A doodle artist who dreams big.

Amid the hustle and bustle of a launch party in progress, with the young and old dancing away to EDM music, and downing beers like tanker sucks water, in one corner of the pub sat Gitika Pohen, a doodle artist. You could not miss her out for on the table before her, lie dozens of paper glasses, with different drawings and paintings. Right at the entrance, the bespectacled soft spoken lass was displaying her works of art to an amused audience who had never taken such a things very seriously.

We quizzed her on what this was and she stated, “I started out with the love for drawing random art on paper before deciding to make it my passion. My creativity on my doodles defines the kind of person I am. I make doodles on glass bottles, t-shirts, shoes, tin cans, mobile covers, furniture and walls.”

We were quite happy to see such imagination of a young artist. Doodle art allows you to use your imagination and share your doodling skills with the world.

To someone who has never heard of the word, we too we new to it, what is a doodle? A doodle is a drawing made while a person’s attention is otherwise occupied. That said, doodles can have concrete representational meaning and be rigorous enough to be elevated to the status of beautiful art, like these notable Indian doodlers have done. Doodles are simple drawings that can have concrete representational meaning or may just be composed of random and abstract lines, generally without ever lifting the drawing device off of the paper, in which case it is usually called a "scribble".

Typical examples of doodling are found in school notebooks, often in the margins, drawn by students or losing interest during class. Other common examples of doodling are produced during long conversations if a pen and paper are available and one just scribbles on a piece of paper randomly.

Popular kinds of doodles include cartoon versions of teachers or companions in a school, famous TV or comic characters, invented fictional beings, landscapes, geometric shapes, patterns and textures.

Connecting music to her work, she says she has done a piece of work on her favourite band, Coldplay. She sent in a few images which are displayed here. She has lots more to offer in terms of decorations on cups and as she said earlier on t shirts, shoes, mobile covers and glass bottles. So if you need to get that drab old mobile cover or that worn out t shirt spruced up with some funky colours, you have Gitika who will change it into a beautiful work of art.
