The Mahindra Blues festival, Asia’s largest blues celebration, is back with its eighth edition featuring the biggest acts from across the globe attracting blues fans for the two-day celebration in the city of Mumbai. This music extravaganza is all set to enthral audiences to a high-octane music festival with an incredible line-up of acclaimed international artists at the iconic Mehboob Studio on the 10th and 11th of February 2018.
Featuring soulful and exquisite performances, the festival celebrates music, food and wine, boasting an incredible array of international performers making it one of the biggest events on the city’s cultural calendar. This year’s artists include ‘The Godfather of British Blues’, John Mayall; the original Wolfman who combines rhythm and blues, Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington; astounding blues-rock guitar virtuoso, Coco Montaya; magical powerhouse, Layla Zoe; and local Mumbai-bred band, Blackstratblues.
For over 50 years, John Mayall has served as a pioneer of blues music, rightly earning him the title, ‘The Godfather of British Blues’. Throughout the '60s, his band, the Bluesbreakers, acted as a finishing school for the leading British blues-rock musicians of the era. Guitarists Eric Clapton, Peter Green, and Mick Taylor joined his band in a remarkable succession in the mid-'60s.
The mainstay of the New Orleans music scene, Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington combines rhythm, blues and modern jazz creating his unique music style. His heartfelt and emotional tunes will take the audiences on a journey like never before.
Master guitarist and soul-powered vocalist Coco Montaya with his hard-edged sound and style will entertain blues addicts to a dynamic performance. Popularly known as ‘the Reincarnate of Janis Joplin’ and deemed Canada's ‘Darling of the blues’, Layla Zoe is a powerful vocalist who is a recognised face of the blues and roots music scene internationally. The Indian blues sensation, the Blackstratblues, a solo project of Warren Mendonsa, is back this year to captivate the audience with their alluring and foot-tapping rhythmic music.
