Mumbai Drum Day to feature Sivamani, Aron Nyiro, Cassy Lobo and many others

After the success of the 3 editions of Mumbai Drum Day, the much awaited unique drum festival featuring some of the leading drummers for the first time on the same stage curated by Gino Banks is back with an all new lineup. Dedicated to THE DRUM SET, the event promises mind blowing performances by some of the best drummers from all over the country.

The First of its kind in the sub-continent, the Mumbai Drum Day brings out the best Drum set players on the same platform showcasing best talent across all musical genres.

This year besides Sivamani, there’s Cassy Lobo, Aron Nyiro, Franco Vaz, Lindsay D’Mello, Titu (T2), Joshua Grant and Jeoraj Stanly George.

The incredibly talented Gino Banksgrew up watching the Modern Drummer Festival in the US and had always wanted to bring such a festival to India. “We have so much talent on the drum set, so many drummers. Some known, some unknown to the public” he shared in an interview. “I want to showcase everyone. We can’t have all in one night, but then this festival will be on year after year and give everyone a chance to perform.”

With friends Nayaab Udhas from the Event Company and Vaibhav Patil from Ginger PR along, Drum Day just gets bigger and better every year.

Speaking on a mix of traditional drums and the percussion, Banks states that he would like to focus more on the drum set. “But at the same time we have incredible percussionist in India who play hybrid setups derived from the traditional drum set. So we want to include that sound and performance mastery in the show as well, besides of course variety of musical styles, in ages and also from different cities too”.

As for Banks, he has a resume that reads like a guest list rather than a musical Curriculum Vitae. In this day and age of YouTube channels and online drum clinics, he maintains a level of proficiency behind the drum kit which is seen every time the 36 year old performs live.

On the current generation of drummers in India, Banks feels it’s the best it’s ever been and it’s moving along well. “We need to get it to a world class level. And I think we are on our way there” he signs off.
