The 2-day summer celebration of “hip-hop music, comedy, food, art and immersive experiences” will take place on March 30th and 31st, 2019 at NSIC Grounds, Okhla in New Delhi. Bira 91 April Fools’ Fest will see showcases featuring over 20+ artists performing across music and comedy.
The final line-up includes the likes of Raja Kumari, a Grammy-nominated Indian-American songwriter and rapper, Prabh Deep, our New Delhi based hip-hop artist will reimagine his Punjabi folk tinged socio-political catalog with The One Eight Project that has some of Delhi’s finest musicians including Chaitanya Bhalla (The Ska Vengers), Harshit Mishra (Prateek Kuhad), Abhay Sharma (Soul’d Out), Vir Singh Brar (Rajasthan Roots) and Archit Anand (The Evening Jammers).
Also, part of the line-up is Mumbai-based hip-hop, trap and dancehall DJ SA, who has become among the most reliable names in the club music scene, Shah Rule, a recording artist, music producer, and audio engineer whose music is a mix of pop, hip-hop and R&B will play along with Youngsta , Nash JR starting at the age of 16 and a hardcore 808 bass lover, Seedhe Maut & Sez from the hip-hop genre. We also have Coven Code, India’s first all female collective promoting art, music, non-binary culture and freedom.
As part of the comic acts there will be Rahul Subhramaniam, Kaneez Surka, Aadar Malik and Naveen Richard from the Improv Dream Team, along with acts by Roshan Joshi and Nishant Suri.
Adding to the festival elements, this year will see “Kommune Hour”, an hour full of storytelling and spontaneity. The artists participating include Kautuk Srivastava, a comic, screenwriter and member of SnG Comedy, Hari Sankar, the Co-Founder and CEO of the up and coming start-up, Beatmap, and Director of Strategy at Kommune, Sheena Khalid, a theatre director, writer and actor based in Mumbai, filmmaker Shikhar Kamat who will showcase interesting magic tricks and story teller Tess Joseph.
The theme for Immersive theatre this year will be cricket, connecting Bira 91’s association with the International Cricket Council and the upcoming Cricket World Cup at England & Wales. There will be fun, playful theater artists interacting with the festival attendees through props and installations. The Festival programming is an eclectic mix, with something for everyone.
