Even though Danny Boyle’s ‘Yesterday’ releases on 28th June globally, India will watch its release only on 12th July, but Beatle mania has taken over Mumbai as Silly Point Productions bring on a Beatles Tribute this weekend.
While there are thousands of Beatles tribute bands spread all over the world devoted to keeping the music of the Beatles alive, from look-alike members, similar instruments, similar amps and clothing (Beatle boots and narrow ties), it’s the feeling you get listening to the songs of the Fab Four that instantly strike a chord with you.
Half of the Beatles (John Lennon and George Harrison) have sadly departed this world. Founding member Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr still perform at times, with the former releasing solo work now and then, but nothing can replace seeing all the Beatles live? The quartet last performed live on a roof top in 1969 yet their music still thrills us. We can still listen to their music and watch the movies and videos.
Catch some of India’s most versatile musicians pay tribute to The Beatles with improvised versions of their greatest hits like Michelle, Twist and Shout, Love Me do, Back in the USSR, Blackbird, Hey Jude, Yesterday, Lucy In The Sky, I Want To Hold Your Hand and many others. The best way to recap all these songs is to be there for the show. Paying tribute to one of the greatest bands in the world would be gifted musicians who would bring the magic of The Beatles live on stage. The tribute band is sure to make an impact with the audience.
While such meticulous preparation to get the songs right might seem like overkill, it pays off when you listen to it. So don't miss this rare chance to see The Beatles' magnum opus, lovingly brought to life on stage. It's about as close to getting your groove on with John, Paul, George and Ringo as you're going to get.
For those who are not familiar with the Beatles, well they were an English pop - rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960, who became one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music. From 1962 until their breakup in 1970, the group consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals).
They roller coastered many musical genres from 1950s rock and roll, to folk rock, psychedelic pop, often incorporating classical and other elements in innovative ways. Their enormous popularity created “Beatle mania", with their music getting more sophisticated and having trails of progressive ideals, and hitting out at social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s. During their career, the Beatles released more than 40 different singles and albums that reached number one on the charts. But they disbanded somewhere in 1970, leaving millions of fans disheartened.
Named by Rolling Stone's magazine as number one on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time, the Beatles are one of the most commercially successful and celebrated bands in the history of music.
If you’re a fan of the Beatles or not, be there on 30th June, 7 pm at St Andrews auditorium, Bandra, Mumbai to relive the Beatles and find out whether you are the Walrus or merely an Eggman.
