Voctronica, India's first all vocal ensemble from Mumbai, have qualified for the finals and are shortlisted to be one among the top 8 teams to participate at the Asian Cup A Capella Competition hosted by Asia's biggest A Capella festival - Vocal Asia, being held in Japan on 9th August 2019.
Earlier this year, they were introduced to what is, a massive global A Capella circuit, and have had the chance to now start being a 'vocal' part of it. At Vocal Asia Festival (VAF), they we will be representing India and competing against 7 other bands from across Asia in this competition.
Who are Voctronica?
Voctronica consists of Avinash Tewari, Arjun Nair, Clyde Rodrigues, Warsha Easwar, Aditi Ramesh and Nagesh Reddy. Voctronica is an all vocal ensemble based out of Mumbai, India, who combine acapella, beatboxing and other innovative vocal tones to make music with a modern sound that also pans across various musical genres. You may have heard some of their music across the last few years - renditions of Fitzpleasure, the AR Rahman Evolution medley, tribute to Classic Indian Ads and Sounds of Nation with Amit Trivedi, to name a few. They have been performing in the live circuit since 2014 and have had the opportunity and privilege to be part of several festivals, collaborations, and have worked with many talented musicians from India's music industry. They have been constantly working hard at evolving our skill set and sound, and have also been able to compose and arrange original music that you may have heard live, and a lot of it releasing soon.
So what happens in Japan?
As a country making giant strides in all walks of the global context, Voctronica strongly believe India deserves a place on the A Capella map in the world. They have been given the opportunity to do that. A few months ago, they were privileged to be the only act from India invited to participate in the Moscow A Capella Spring Festival amongst 185 bands from all over the world.
It was an exhilarating, and tremendous experience to proudly express interpretation of Indian and global music, and represent our roots in a new country that hasn't had as much exposure to their music, let alone to India's music and culture . The A Capella and All Vocal community is growing tremendously world over, with international governments supporting their local talent, as they experienced in Moscow. It is important for them to showcase Indian identity as a vocal ensemble, and put forth their unique approach to A Capella. India deserves recognition at a global level in this niche circuit, and they have worked hard to earn the right to do so.
How can you help?
Financial and Logistical Support from the host nation is not always available, as is the case with this Asian Cup in Japan. As young musicians, making a living off music, they don't have the financial resources to make this one happen.
This is where YOU get to step in and be part of this effort to help Voctronica. Represent, and pursue their dreams of excellence. Any and every contribution is a step towards making this journey to Japan feasible this year. We often speak of our Indian spirit that really comes together, be it during our darkest times, or during our brightest moments in the sun. Such as during sporting events like the ongoing Cricket World Cup. We want India to make its mark at this A capella world cup and we will assure that every donation is acknowledged and do our best at Japan. Let's make this happen. Here's how your support gets utilised so Voctronica can attend the finals of the Asian Cup A Capella Competition at Takamatsu, Japan in August.
