She’s got the biggest selling album of the year, and now Ariana Grande continues her hot streak by co-leading the pack of nominees for the 2019 Video Music Awards. Ariana has racked up a whopping 10 nominations, including Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Direction and Best Cinematography, all for her thank u, next video.
Joining her at the top of the list is fellow pop titan Taylor Swift, who also boasts 10 nods, split between Me and You Need To Calm Down.
Newbies Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X grabbed nine and eight nods respectively.
This year’s show sees the introduction of 2 new categories: Best K-Pop and Video For Good (previously Best Video with a Social Message).
Cardi B turns out to be the year’s most versatile artist with nominations in three distinct genres. She's up for Best Pop for Please Me, her collabo with Bruno Mars; Best Hip Hop for her solo hit Money; and Best Dance for DJ Snake's Taki Taki, on which she is featured.
The award for Best R&B has been reintroduced after a 12 year absence. It's good for all genres to be represented, especially one that is such a vital part of popular music. Welcome back, R&B. We missed you.
The 2019 Video Music Awards will air exclusively on Vh1 India on 27th August 2019. Carpet Special 6.30 am; Main Show 7.30 am with a repeat at 9 pm
