Banyan Tree presents World Jazz Festival this weekend in Mumbai

Jazz exists in many forms. It can be relaxing, upbeat, slow, fast, erratic, new age and in so many other variations you may come across. The best jazz music can transport a listener to a different time and place and you can be sure that the festival happening on this weekend would do just that.

Banyan Tree is all set to present a never before festival that will feature World & Jazz music in tandem. Aptly titled World Jazz Festival, this first ever festival will feature some amazingly talented artists from around the world in Mumbai.

This festival is co-curated by one of the leading Jazz festival organizers of the World and a highly reputed festival of Netherlands i.e. Amersfoort Jazz festival.

Spread over two days, Mumbai can expect to witness an awe-inspiring line up of Jazz musicians from Netherlands, South Africa, USA and Far East. This festival is sure to attract the Jazz music lovers of Mumbai enhancing the jazz scene of the city even further.

Music lovers can enjoy the coming together of these two streams which are considered most flexible and spectacular, on the same platform and in combination.  

Similarities between Indian classical music and Jazz music have given birth to a new genre of music called Indo Jazz. World Jazz Festival will also showcase unique collaborations with some of India’s finest musicians.

The finale act on 23rd February will feature a grand all bands Jam session which will be specially curated for this festival.

If you have the love for jazz that features a combination of great artists and a wide variety of jazz styles brought to you from all over the world and a love for Jazz at its finest, then check out this festival. Although you can listen to jazz at home, the best jazz is played Live and on stages around the world.

With the aim to popularize this genre, Tata Elxsi will be supporting this festival as a Title Sponsor.

Here’s all you need to know about the Artists performing at the fesival:

Ntando Ngcapu & Band (South Africa) - A Soweto, South Africa born and raised pianist, was exposed to music played at home such as choral music, classical music, local music of the time, and the music from church. After matriculating, Ntando has been performing with many contemporary musicians around South Africa. In 2013 Ntando enrolled at the Tshwane University of Technology. Ntando also won the 2017 Samro Overseas Scholarship Award.

New York Round Midnight Orchestra (Netherlands) - New York Round Midnight is one of the hottest jazz productions of the moment in which you will experience the exciting nightlife in the renowned clubs around Broadway, New York, in the golden era of jazz. A group of exquisite musiciansfrom the cream of the Dutch jazz scene will take you back to the heyday of jazz, a vibrant world full of thrilling music and compelling stories about love, desire, joy and despair. With this magnificent theatre show you can enjoy some hard-swinging jazz classics and, meet the historical jazz figures who brought them into being.

Saskia Laroo & Band (Netherlands) - Saskia Laroo (1959) was hailed by American public and press at large as “Lady Miles of Europe.”She is one of the few women trumpet stylists and a delight on the music scene for almost four decades. Her artistry and her groove ring vibrantly and free on her eight CD albums, a LP and a DVD, journeying us through all the music she has absorbed, played with heart and soul.

Koh Mr. Saxman & Takeshi Band (Thailand) – Koh Mr.Saxman, born in 1973, studied Music Education at Chulalongkorn University (1991-1994).Koh has performed in over 10 different countries and recorded 5 solo albums. He also performed in hundreds of records, films, television shows and commercial jingles.Koh formed his own band called “The Funk Machine Band” playing fusion jazz, funky and pop jazz music and played in many clubs in Thailand.
