On December 4, 1956, one man brought Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins to play together for the first and only time. His name was Sam Phillips… the place was Sun Records… an American independent record label founded by producer Sam Phillips in Memphis, Tennessee in February 1952.
This coming together of talent would go down in the annals of history as the night they made rock ‘n’ roll history.
‘Million Dollar Quartet’the worldwide smash hit musical, brings that legendary night to life, with its extraordinary true story of broken promises, secrets, and the once-in-a-lifetime celebration of four musical superstars. The musical literally takes you back to December 4, 1956, when a rare twist of fate brought together Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis for an unrehearsed recording session at Sun Records. Inspired by the incredible true story, this Tony Award and West End winning musical recreates the sights and sounds of these four rock 'n' roll stars before they became legends.
This poignant musical features a score of 24 of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll hits of all time and reeks of nostalgic value with hits including Blue Suede Shoes, Fever, That’s All Right, Sixteen Tons, Great Balls of Fire, Walk the Line, Party, Who Do You Love?, Matchbox, Folsom Prison Blues and Hound Dog.
The cast includes Peter Duncan (Sam Phillips), Ross William Wild (Elvis Presley), Robbie Durham (Johnny Cash), Matthew Wycliffe (Jerry Lee Lewis) and Philip Murray Warson (Carl Perkins). There’s also Katie Ray (Dyanne) playing Elvis Presley’s girlfriend.
The stage production is written by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux, directed by Olivier nominated Ian Talbot OBE, and includes designs by David Farley, lighting by David Howe and sound by Ben Harrison. Million Dollar Quartet is produced by Mark Goucher and Laurence Myers and presented in India by Blank Slate who have brought major West End productions such as Agatha Christie’s ‘The Mousetrap’ and P. G. Wodehouse’s ‘Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense’ to India.
Re-joining the production as the ‘Father of Rock ’n’ Roll’ Sam Phillips, is Peter Duncan. Following rave reviews for his performance in the musical’s 2017 UK tour, the Olivier Award nominee and former Blue Peter presenter, returns to the stage in 2020.
