With almost every singer / band in the country doing a song or something on the Corona Virus pandemic since the last two months, thankfully Voctronica have decided otherwise. Not that they cannot do a song on the COVID 19, its just that they are made of better material and don’t follow what others are doing. Its because they are different, musically. And guess what, in a time like this when musicians around the world are worried about the future of the music industry, you would never expect Voctronica to come out with an original masterpiece. That’s right, the cool members of Voctronica have released a first of its kind, all-vocal instrumental track titled Seven, a song with no lyrics and instruments, making it a unique production.
Voctronica consists of six members namely, AvinashTewari (beatbox, bass), Warsha Easwar (vocals, brass, strings), Aditi Ramesh (vocals, brass, strings), Arjun Nair (bass, vocals), Clyde Rodrigues (vocals, brass, strings) and Nagesh Reddy (beatbox). They use a cappella and beatboxing to emulate the power of a live band and create a sound that is intriguing and addictive.
“Seven is an all vocal instrumental, one of the first of its kind, set to one of our favourite time signatures. The song travels through genres and moods, influenced by everything from Carnatic classical music to Drum N Bass, culminating in a unique experience of humans serving as instruments, experimenting with and pushing the boundaries of the powers of the human voice” says Arjun Nair.
For the first edition of Red Bull Premieres, a new, monthly property featuring releases by some of the most exciting artists from across the country, that kicked off this month, Voctronica hit it off with their debut single Seven.
Says Spryk - producer, DJ, label owner and one of the country’s most exciting mixed media artists, “Voctronica is a one of a kind acapella band that is packed with incredibly talented musicians, an infectious energy in their style of performance and they manage to do what they do without any instruments at all. They have been a familiar name in the live and indie music circuit for quite some time now and the band’s line-up has also evolved over the years. Their new single is almost a coming of age for the band since it will be their first ever original song to be released.”
Regarded as the country’s first ever all-vocal orchestra, Voctronica has been paving the way for the vocal music community in India since 2011. Over the years, the band has released numerous cover videos, created solely with the power of the human voice, which went viral and shot the band to fame. From the renowned music composer Amit Trivedi to the widely popular comedy group AIB, Voctronica’s signature sound has enabled them to collaborate with some of the biggest content creators in India.
In 2019, the band hit a number of milestones starting with being invited as the only act representing India at the Moscow Spring A Cappella Festival that hosted over 180+ vocal acts from around the world. Following which they were selected as the first Indian act to participate at Vocal Asia's Asian Cup where they were awarded the Silver prize. In September the band was invited to perform as the opening act for the 4-time Grammy winner Jacob Collier when he performed in India as a part of his world tour.
The all-vocal instrumental Seven is now available on all streaming platforms. The song release has been accompanied by an animated video which is the band’s take on a lyric video.
