Music journalist Narendra Kusnur goes live as a part of NCPA's Jazz appreciation series: 'Let’s Talk Jazz'

In India, jazz music has had its own set of loyalists for decades. The genre always manages to pull in a niche and discerning audience that understands its intricacies, its diverse range and the variety of rhythmic arrangements it has to offer.

With patrons gaining access to a variety of genres in the digital age, very few of them have the requisite exposure to jazz music, even though India has consistently produced a plethora of young talent in the last few years.

Keeping this thought in mind, the NCPA introduces Let's Talk Jazz; aseries with veteran music writer Narendra Kusnur who will introduce both laymen and novices to thesplendor of jazz music, helping them further develop their understanding of the genre. This initiative by NCPA will include live sessions in which Kusnur will talk about the evolution of the genre, legends that have left a permanent mark & the contemporary scene for Jazz in India that remains largely unchartered.

While two of the sessions have been completed, here are details of the last two sessions.

Here are the session highlights:

August 21,2020 | Modern and contemporary jazz: What to expect in a live show today

The session will focus on experts who have played a role in providing new sounds such as Miles Davis, Weather Report and John McLaughlin.

Modern styles like jazz-rock, electronic jazz and world jazz have seen a rise in groups from Europe which has given the world landmark recordings.

August 28, 2020 | How jazz has evolved in India

The session will highlight the thriving jazz scene in India along with fusion and a round-up score that have come through major artistes. The session will also focus on linking Indian Music with jazz.
