B-BoyShigekix from Japan and B-Girl Kastet from Russia sealed the titles at the 17th edition of RedBull BC One, the biggest one-on-one breaking competition. Sixteen breakers represented 11 countries at the Hangar-7 in Salzburg, inspiring their local breaking communities and celebrating a cultural phenomenon rooted in the early 1970s hip-hop and New York City street culture.
Reigning 2019 World Champion Kastet from Russia held on to her crown and is the first competitor in history to hold a back-to-back Red Bull BC One World Champion title.B-Boy Shigekix competed at the World Final in2017, but this is the first time the Japanese B-Boy has won the competition. He is also the youngest competitor ever to take the title.
B-Boy Shigekix took on B-Boy Alkolil, a Russian B-Boy known for his combination of power, footwork and tricks. B-Girl Kastet went head-to-head with B-Girl Madmax from Belgium, who was the Red Bull BC One E-Battle 2020 winner. Shigekix scored because of his musicality and variety, whilst Kastet bested Madmax in terms of execution.
B-Boy Shigekix, representing Japan, said:“I’m super happy and I still can’t believe it’s real. I worked so hard for this competition. Not only this year, I have been working hard to win this.”
B-Girl Kastet, representing Russia, added:“My secret is that I am not afraid to lose. I am just in the moment and want to represent myself in the best way, the true way. That is my secret.”
This year, the World Final featured no spectators. Breaking fans and the competitors’ crews attended the competition along the stage on LED screens in a virtual experience during the event. They cheered for their favorites in real-time, bringing them into the heart of the competition.
The competition was livestreamed across seven languages: English, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Japanese, Polish and Russian. A commentary-free stream was also available exclusively on Red Bull TV.
