LA based artist Matt Simons has a unique ability to reach a global audience, with an accessible sound that still feels personal to each of his fans worldwide. Following the success of his last single Better Tomorrow (a top 10 airplay hit in Germany), Simons returns with a brand new track exploring a fresh and modern approach to song writing.

Teaming up with long-time writing partner Sean Myer and Caroline Pennell, Identity Crisis has all the hallmarks of a classic Matt Simons song. Lyrically relatable and 100% honest , the song bravely  exposes his vulnerability and insecurities, exploring how relationships mold a person's identity and the uncomfortable process of trying to start afresh after the relationship ends. 

Says Matt, Identity Crisis explores co-dependency and how at times we tend to lose our sense of self in a relationship. When it's over, how do we pick up the pieces and move forward?" Says director Tolga Yıldız, "Working on Identity Crisis video was a very fun process mostly because the song is very catchy and so good. We tried to visualize different identities a man can get by showing various visual artistic styles. Each style comes with its limitation and freedom. As we run through this life like a marathon runner we have to change or reinvent ourselves in order to adjust the current environment. Like the famous Heraclitus said: "The only thing that doesn't change is change itself. While it is good to know what direction we are headed in, you can't get paralyzed due to impending change, nor can you change what you do today for a future problem or issue...”

A story of humble beginnings, Simons grew up in Palo Alto, California as the grandson of two opera singers. He spent much of his early life studying jazz and classical music, playing the piano before switching to clarinet and guitar before crafting his own, melodic pop identity. It wasn't long before he took steps to self-promote his releases online. To his surprise, his appealing pop sensibilities picked up an audience in The Netherlands, where his career started to really take off. A sync on a Dutch TV show and a string of tour dates meant he had the perfect foundation to build a career overseas.

Deepend's remix of  Catch & Release bubbled up organically and ended up to as one off 2016's biggest hits, reaching Gold and Platinum status in a dozen territories and the top of the European Airplay chart.  2018's We Can Do Better’ and Open Up (2019) and Better Tomorrow (2020) following close behind, with success spreading even further. Identity Crisis is the first in a string of exciting new songs to be released in 2021, culminating in an EP later in the year.
