Whether she performs intimately on the edge of the stage with guitar and voice or with imposing and striking instrumentation backing her up, Veronica Fusaro captivates the listener’s attention.
Following on from her most recent single Beach and first release taken from her debut album which she’s currently working on, 2nd single Fool, is a story about lies, deceit and a broken heart. It showcases a richer more classic full band production and one that would not sound out of place on a James Bond Soundtrack. The strong vocal performance on this track delivers the realization of true strength after being hurt. "Don't think that I am foolish/ Don't think that I am blind!" she sings.
The bluesy ballad with a rocky finish once again showcases Fusaro's talent for being sometimes mellow, sometimes singing velvety, sometimes belting. Should Tarantino ever make a romantic drama Fool would be the perfect piece for the soundtrack.
The Swiss Italian artist has already impressed Dire Straits legend Mark Knopfler with her versatility, with whom she performed in the amphitheatre in Nîmes. The 350 concerts she has played include gigs at Glastonbury, Eurosonic and support shows for Ibeyi and Eagle-Eye Cherry. Fusaro writes authentic storytelling pop songs interweaved with powerful melodies and plenty of heart that shimmers somewhere between retro soul and future pop.
With her talent, the singer-songwriter was also able to convince none other than Paul O'Duffy, who has already worked with Amy Winehouse and Dusty Springfield. It only took one email for him to agree to work with the newcomer. "I read his name in the credits of a couple of songs I liked - and just wrote him a mail!", the 23-year-old says.
Veronica counts Adele and Lana Del Rey among her idols and has already been compared to Lorde. Her previous successes and the current single give us a hint: This young woman has what it takes to become something really big.
