Mary J, Blige’s life comes to life in ‘My Life’

This week, Amazon Prime Video brings a repertoire of engaging shows and movies  for the Prime members  starting with Mary J, Blige’sMy Life’, directed by Oscar winner Vanessa Roth and produced by Ashaunna K. Ayars and Q. Nicole Jackson. It is a revelation of the demons and blessings that inspired the singer’s 1994 LP “My Life” propelling her from the soul-crushing world of New York’s housing projects to international acclaim . Nine-time Grammy winning recording artist and Academy Award nominated singer and actress Mary J. Blige set the music world on fire with her trailblazing 1994 LP “My Life,” a collection of powerful confessions about her battles with abuse, depression and addiction that struck an enduring connection with millions world over.

The documentary Mary J. Blige’sMy Life’, portrays the singer, producer and actress, Mary J Blinge as she reveals the demons and blessings that inspired the record “My Life”and propelled her to international stardom. In the process, she celebrates the 25th anniversary of her most influential work by performing the album live for the first time.

Executive produced by the singer and Sean Combs (who also appears in the trailer), the documentary also features appearances by Alicia Keys and Taraji P. Henson. Quincy Jones serves as the executive music producer.

’My Life’ is probably my darkest album at one of the darkest times I’ve had,” Blige says in the emotional trailer. “Most of the time I was just depressed and didn’t want to live.”

She added, “I had it all inside and I was able to sing it and write it, and I didn’t know that so many people felt the same way.”

The film is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime from 25th June 2021.
