B-Boy Wildchild of Mumbai and B-Girl Jo of Bengaluru win the Red Bull BC One Cypher India 2021

The sixth edition of the Red Bull BC One Cypher India was held on September 4, with 16 b-boys and 4 b-girls from around the country competing for the title and a chance to represent India at the Red Bull BC One World Final in Gdansk, Poland, later this year.

After a series of gruelling rounds during which he beat out B-Boy Demon, B-Boy Jin, B-Boy Diamond and then finally three-time champion B-Boy Flying Machine, B-Boy Wildchild took his first title. B-Girl Jo took her second win defeating B-Girl Glib in the semifinal and B-Girl Pace in the final.

Over the last two months, breakers from around the country competed in the first-ever all-digital qualifiers for the Red Bull BC One Cypher India, with judges B-Boy Wing from South Korea, and B-Boy Junior and B-Girl Sarah Bee from France selecting the top 16 b-boys and top 4 b-girls from over 500 entries.

B-Boy Wildchild and B-Girl Jo will now travel to Gdansk, Poland, in November this year, where they will compete in the Last Chance Cypher for b-boys and b-girls, respectively, for a chance to earn a spot in the top 16 of the Red Bull BC One World Final 2021.

Says B-Girl Jo, “I think I got better at being a breaker in the lockdown the second time around. The first time I kind of burnt out trying to train as hard as I could without a goal in sight and without taking care of my mental and spiritual health through what the entire world was going through. The second lockdown I took time to build my training very holistically. I kept my nutrition very clean, practiced yoga to keep my mental and emotional self healthy and I put in the hours of training even though there was no announcement of any upcoming jam. I did it for my own growth as a breaker. I’m so excited to have been able to win my second Red Bull BC One Cypher India title, and to now travel to another country for the World Final. It’s going to be a new experience and I’m happy I took my journey seriously this year.”

Says B-Boy Wildchild, “I say the timing is perfect and there was a purpose of my waiting – in previous years, the time was not mine, however, this is now my time to shine. I’m very excited to now represent India at the Last Chance Cypher at the Red Bull BC One World Final.”
