MTV has announced a new ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ category for the 2022 VMAs, indicating that concerts on metaverse platforms including Roblox and Fortnite are becoming part of the music industry furniture.
Dubit is one of the largest creators of musical experiences in the metaverse, having built metaverse awards show parties for the BRIT’s and Grammy’s in 2022, as well as the concert for one of the VMA-nominated artists. Roblox's former head of music, Jon Vlassopulos, recently joined Dubit as a board member.
CEO of Dubit, Matthew Warneford says “It’s fantastic that MTV has acknowledged the explosion of musical metaverse experiences by giving them their very own VMAs category. While the pandemic may have accelerated the growth of virtual concerts in part out of necessity, it’s very clear we are witnessing a permanent shift. The metaverse, with its ability to provide massive, open experiences for anyone, anywhere, is an ideal space in which to connect artists, fans, and brands in ways that have never been possible before.”
