The inaugural edition of the Red Bull BC One India Cypher, held at Mehboob Studio, Bandra, Mumbai, on the 13th of June, saw 16 of the country’s best B-Boys battle for the coveted title of the first Red Bull BC One India Champion. 19-year-old Arif Chaudhary, aka B-Boy Flying Machine, emerged winner, with the competition being presided over by the Red Bull BC One All Stars RoxRite, Taisuke and Hong 10.
After four rounds of intense one-on-one battles, the final came down to Mumbai B-Boys Nevermind, aka Naidu Sagar, and Flying Machine. Closely matching each other move for move, both proved to be tough competitors, for a final round that was at once impressive and exhilarating.
On DJ duties for the night was DJ Light from Tokyo, known for his expertise over old school punk and break beats. A short showcase by the All Stars, as well as performances by the Mumbai-based all-vocal ensemble Voctronica and ace Bollywood choreographer Mudassar Khan and his crew provided additional entertainment for the evening. B-Boys and B-Girls from across the country turned up in large numbers to support their counterparts, and roared and cheered their encouragement through every battle.
Said B-Boy Flying Machine “When I started B-Boying in 2011, I used to watch Red Bull BC One videos online, and ever since, I’ve wanted to perform on that stage. It feels like a dream come true for me. I am excited and nervous about representing India at the regional finals. My focus is now on practicing and perfecting my moves, tomake my country proudat the Asia Pacific Final in Seoul.”
