Nominations for the 56th Annual Grammy awards were announced on Friday, December 5 from Los Angeles. With Over 50 years of recognizing outstanding work, the Grammys are popular for their  rich legacy of being a premier outlet  honoring achievements in the music community.

Several artists under leading music banner, Universal Music Group have emerged as major nominees across various categories in the recording industry’s most prestigious awards.

Having created waves with chart toppers like “Pure Heroine” and “Royals” , the seventeen year old wonder from New Zealand, Lorde, holds 4 nominations in the Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Solo Performance, Record of the year and Song of the Year categories. Another chartbuster, voted five times over by the DJ Magazine’s Top 100 poll as the ‘No.1 DJ’, Armin Van Buuren, is a Grammy nominee this year in the Best Dance Recording award category for his single “This is what it feels like”.

2013’s bestselling single ‘Blurred Lines’ earned Robin Thicke quite a few nominations as well including the Record of the year, Best Pop Vocal, Best Performance by Duo or Group categories.

Nominated in the Best New Artist category is debutant Kacey Musgraves who finds herself in the run for country music category awards, along with US popstar Taylor Swift who along with the 3 country music nominations, is vying for the Album of the Year award for her ‘Red’. Other popular artists nominated include ‘Roar’ singer Katy Perry for Song of the Year and Best Solo Performance and Rihana in the Best Pop Duo/Group Collaboration and Best Urban Contemporary Album for her album ‘Unapologetic’.

Among the finalists in the R&B category are Kelly Rowland (Without Me), PJ Morton (Only One) for Best Song R&B song, Chrisette Michele for Best R&B Album and Q-Tip for Best R&B performance.
