Ehsaan Noorani curates homegrown talent for music show ‘The Stage’

There is more to Ehsaan Noorani than being part of India's most celebrated music composer trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Ehsaan has been part of the music industry for three decades, starting off way back in 1986 with jingles, slowly making the smooth transition into music composer and indie musician.

Ehsaan, surprisingly, has never been part of any music reality show. He will now be seen judging an English music talent show, ‘The Stage’ on Colors Infinity along with musicians Vishal Dadlani, Monica Dogra and Universal Music’s Devraj Sanyal. The show premieres on October 9, 2015 on Colors Infinity.

‘The Stage’ has been a challenging role for all the judges as the show’s format doesn’t include public voting and relies completely on the jury’s decision. A firm believer of the indie musicscene in the country, Noorani was elated by the quality of talent on the show.

The singer added, The singers are phenomenal. They are versatile, thorough in terms of research and presentation and very attuned to all kinds of music. There is so much talent in different parts of India that the music industry hasn’t tapped into yet. Everybody should know their music and ‘The Stage’ is an apt platform to unearth talent.”

He also added, “It is difficult to export an English singing Indian artist internationally because we lack the infrastructure to facilitate that. ‘The Stage’ is probably one of the first steps in that direction.”

Ehsaan Noorani has effortlessly strummed his way balancing both his roles, as part of the composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composing biggest chartbusters like Dil Chahta Hai, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Rock On!! while pursuing his love for the blues in the live scene.

Noorani sees himself indulging increasingly in the independent music scene and would like to mentor the young artists in the country. “I would love to produce their work or write songs for them as they deserve to be heard.”
