Boney M remains a living legend of the entire disco era. The band was one of the biggest disco orientated pop acts that dominated the European charts throughout the late seventies and early eighties with a string of hits that are considered as classics today. Record producer Frank Farian their mentor moulded the four piece band in the dance pop fashion featuring the stunning vocals of Liz Mitchell which proved irresistible to radio, dance floors and party-goers.
Mitchell is no stranger to India. “I have been to India before and I loved it then. I hope this trip will be as fabulous as my previous visits. I hope to have as much fun as possible sharing with the people of India.”
Over an email chat, Liz recounted her early days of Boney M and how music has changed. “I think 70s was very special time. Melodies ruled. Rhythm ruled and dancing climaxed. Music is the healer and a gift from above. The music I recorded later also represented that. So the beat may have changed but the message not, hence we survive.”
Going back in time she recounts how she got to join the group that also had Marcia Barrett, Mazie Williams and Bobby Farrell the only male member in the group who passed away in 2010. “I got a phone call from Marcia Barrett in February 1976 persuaded me to return to Germany to join a new group being assembled by record producer Frank Farian which would become known as Boney M. Though the group's initial purpose was to simply lip-synch for TV and discothèque performances of Farian's song "Baby Do You Wanna Bump", Boney M. soon became a legitimate recording group with Mitchell, Barrett, and producer Farian as the vocal core” She recalls.
Boney M featuring Liz Mitchell is a phenomenal live act drawing huge crowds across Europe and around the world. Fans of the band hope for a reunion. So will the remaining three members ever come back for a reuion? “I will never say never. Cause our lives are in God’s hands. If it is Gods plan it will surely happen. It was Gods plan when we met and he allowed us to do great things together. He will again if it is in his plan.”
Performing in Mumbai for the first time ever, Boney M will transform Dublin Square at Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla into a gigantic dance floor on Saturday, 21st November 2015.
