Jagjit Singh Music Festival begins in February

Jagjit Singh Foundation in association with Perfect Harmony Productions Pvt. Ltd. announces "Jagjit Singh Music Festival", a never before, two day music festival to celebrate the 75th Birth Anniversary of "The King Of Ghazal" Jagjit Singh.

Padma Bhushan Jagjit Singh's music has touched our souls. Although he is physically not present among us today, but his mesmerizing voice still lingers in our hearts and minds with the same charisma. 

Year 2016 happens to be the 75th Birthday of the maestro Jagjit Singh. To make the celebrations grand on his Platinum Jubilee Day, a two day music festival has been announced.

Detailed schedule is as below -

DAY 1 – 7th Feb. 2016

Young ghazal singers below the age of 30 years will be invited from all over India by virtue of their recordings. To be a part of the celebration - sing a ghazal with only Tanpura and POST your video on www.facebook.com/JagjitSinghMF - (Jagjit Singh Music Festival's Page) with hashtag - ‪#‎JSMF75

Top 25 singers will be selected by an esteemed panel of jury including Janab Nida Fazli, Smt. Chitra Singh, Chairperson, Jagjit Singh Foundation, Shri. Suresh Wadkar and Shri Roop Kumar Rathod.

These selected singers will perform in Mumbai on 7th Feb. 2016 at Ajivasan. The day will feature 3 sessions starting from 11am till evening. A total of 75 ghazals of Jagjit Singh will be sung. At the end of the day's session, all participants would be honoured by the jury maestros and they would be given a citation from Jagjit Singh foundation.

This will lead to enormous enthusiasm among young Ghazal singers to take up ghazal as art form and spread it around the world.

DAY 2 – 8th Feb. 2016

Day 2 will feature unique celebration in the form of ‘Jagjit Singh Musical Festival’ attended by who’s who of the music fraternity. This will be a public event featuring performances by legends.

The line up includes Deepak Pandit and Ranjit Barot giving a musical invocation of 10 minutes to the commencement of the festival, followed by Ghazal Maestro Shri Hari Haran regaining the audience for 45 minutes with his own unique ghazals and then Shri Suresh Wadkar and Shri Sonu Nigam would give unique rendition of Jagjit ji’s compositions in their own inimitable style to relive the memories of maestro’s ethereal music.

The second half will showcase a unique combination titled “Tridhara” which will premier on the occasion. This will feature three streams of art namely Taal, Sur & Nritya together featuring Padma Bhusan Ustad Zakir Hussain, Padma Vibhusan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and Padma Vibhusan Pandit Birju Maharaj.
