The celebration of indie music reached an upsurge with the finale of ‘Radio City Freedom Awards –Edition 3.0’. The grand finale climaxed in the City of Dreams, Mumbai, where the best of indie music got acknowledged amidst gleaming performances. Nominations were invited across 10 categories- Young Indie Artists, Indie Collaboration, Rock, Metal, Pop, Hip- Hop, Album Art, Electronica, Folk Fusion, and Video. More than 600 entries were garnered across genres.
Nominations for Radio City Freedom Awards -Edition 3.0, enticed some biggies from the Indie music circle. Brodha V, Indian Ocean, MidivalPunditz, Benny Dayal, Nucleya, Demonic Resurrection, Laxmi Bomb, Faridkotwere some of the names that featured in the nominations across genres. The awards were categorized into the ‘Jury Choice’ and ‘People Choice’ awards. The ‘Jury Choice Award’ across each category was judged by a power packed jury comprising of Luke Kenny, Atul Churamani, Yotam Agam, Nandini Srikar & Subir Malik.
Young and budding talent was acknowledged as much as the indie music veterans at the awards. Anand Bhaskar Collective walked away as the Best Rock Artist - Popular and Jury Choice while Aditya Balani was awarded the Best Pop Artist – Jury Choice. While Indian Ocean bagged the Best Folk Fusion Artist – Jury Choice, Mumbai’s Finest was the Best Hip-Hop Artist - Popular and Jury Choice. The evening also saw Jainam, a budding musician from Gujarat’s Jamnagar walk away as the Best Electronica Artist – Jury Choice.
Indie veteran Vijay Basrur was the recipient of the Indie-Genius of the year award.
This edition, the theme at the Radio City Freedom Awards was ‘Music and Beyond’. Sticking true to it, the audience was in for a special performance by Spoken Word artist Rakesh Tiwari who was also accompanied by violinist RamyaPothuri.
The audience was enthralled by the likes of Swarathma, Alobo Naga and The Band, Ganesh Talkies, Neeraj Arya’s Kabir Café and Laxmi Bomb whose beautiful renditions made the evening, an affair to remember. One of the highlights of the evening was a special performance by Spoken Word artist Rakesh Tiwari who was also accompanied by violinist Ramya Pothuri as per the theme of the awards which was ‘Music and Beyond’.
Held at the Hard Rock Café, Worli on February 24th, 2016, the gala was an electrifying soiree of great performances and immense talent.
