Disney’s Beauty and the Beast back for Season II

Disney India’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ musical is all set to make a comeback with Season II this summer.

Disney brought the timeless classic ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to the Indian stage for the first time ever in 2015. ‘The Beauty and the Beast’ musical was completely developed locally in India, while retaining the original script and memorable music of the Broadway show. Over 100 of the best musical theatre performers in India brought the story of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ alive on stage, with world class production values, lavish sets and gorgeous costumes.

Disney India collaborated with the very best local talent, who worked closely with these renowned International artists to recreate the musical in India. Some eminent names involved in the Indian production are Vikranth Pawar (Show Director and Creative Head, Live Entertainment at Disney India), Lesle Lewis (Music Direction),Terence Lewis (Choreography), Varsha Jain (Set Design), Gavin Miguel (Costume Design), Pallavi Devika (Hair & Make-up) and Suzanne D’Mello (Vocal Training).

In Mumbai it was performed at Dome@NSCI, SVP Stadium, while in Delhi it was held at Thyagaraj Sports Complex; each of which could accommodate about 2500 people for each show. The show promised to be the most immersive Broadway scale show where a select set of audience got the opportunity to be a part of all the action and experience the magic at 360 degrees (on swivel chairs).

Given the response received for Season I, the show makes it for Season II to Mumbai and Delhi by popular demand the musical generated in both the markets. The venue remains the same. Dates will be announced later.

Some of the firsts attached to the show:

- Pioneered a new genre of entertainment.

- Globally, in most of the markets Beauty and the Beast is a traveling show, but for India unlike any other country we decided to produce it locally at a scale and grandeur bigger than the original show.

- On an average a musical show on Broadway or the West End has not more than 30-40 artists on stage, here in India we had more than 100 local performers, making it the biggest production of Beauty and the Beast globally.

- The seating was unique as a select set of audience could choose to be seated on swivel chairs to enjoy a 360 degree view of the show as the action plays out around them. This created an immersive experience.

- To bring alive the story, we chose a stadium and not a conventional auditorium to bring forth the grandness of the musical.

- Advanced technology through luminous stage and sets were used, which further enhanced the grandeur of the show. LED panels further created depth in the overall visual experience of the show

- Developed Local talent ecosystem -- acknowledged by the Industry
