India’s most celebrated film icon Shri Amitabh Bachchan received a rousing welcome on his maiden visit to Thrissur today. He was greeted by a legion of nearly 10,000 fans who had been waiting for hours to get a glimpse of the star as he arrived on the premises of the Sree Seetharamaswamy Temple at Pushpagiri, Punkunnam, Thrissur last week.

The star had come to inaugurate the 10 day-long Vasanthothsavam Music and Dance Festival at the invitation of  Shri T.S. Kalyanaraman, the promoter of Kalyan Jewellers and a patron of the temple. 

Shri Bachchan was received on his arrival by Shri. T.S. Anantharaman, Shri. T.S. Pattabhiraman, Shri. T.S. Balaraman, Shri. T.S. Ramachandran along with Shri. T.S. Kalyanaraman. The temple management committee and officials including Shri. T.R. Rajagopal, Shri. T.S. Ramakrishnan, Shri. D. Moorthy, Shri. T.S. Vishwanatha Iyer, and Shri. K.M.S. Mani were also present on the occasion.

In his trademark baritone voice, Shri. Bachchan greeted thousands who had gathered to catch a glimpse of him and said that he was deeply honored to have been bestowed the opportunity to inaugurate the festival.

Earlier in the day, Shri Bachchan arrived in Nedumbassery on Kalyan Jewellers’ aircraft and flew on the company’s helicopter to Thrissur. After the inauguration ceremony, he returned to Mumbai in the evening.
