Reggae Rajahs, have been working on a video over the last couple of weeks while the IPL was in progress. They've put together an Indian version of the track that went viral very recently - Champion (by DJ Bravo).
In a playful jab at DJ Bravo, Reggae Rajahs have released their own version of the hit song Champion. Popularized during West Indies’ T20 World Cup win earlier this year, Bravo’s song praises Caribbean cricketers and athletes. However, Reggae Rajahs have put an Indian twist on the song, shouting out to local heroes like Sachin, Kohli, Baichung and Mary.
“It’s great to see the impact that DJ Bravo’s song had all over the country. It’s probably the most popular reggae song in India since we started promoting Caribbean music here” says General Zooz, founding member of Reggae Rajahs.
Reggae and dancehall music is a niche genre in India whereas in the West Indies, it is the dominant form of music. “The power of sports and particularly cricket as a way to introduce people to different cultures in India shouldn’t be underestimated. Big up to DJ Bravo for breaking down barriers,” he goes on to say.
On why Reggae Rajahs decided to release their own version of the song, Zooz says, “Since we started the hearing this song all over the country, we decided that India needs it’s own version. After all, we are cricket obsessed like nowhere else. We are the real champions!”
‘Champion (India Refix)’ was recorded on the Frenz List Riddim Instrumental by Equiknoxx Music and the vocals were mixed and mastered by Dualist Inquiry. The official music video was made by Delhi based One Duniya Productions.
