Meattle & Malik is a simple story of two musicians, who come together a few times in a year, breaking from their regular duties, to jam and make music. The duo consists of Nikhil Malik and Raghav Meattle (you would remember him from the second edition of the English reality show ‘The Stage’).
Nikhil has been around playing musician with bands such as Half Step Down, Cyanide and Blank Noize when not donning the composer’s hat as a part of the trio at Studio Fuzz (Studio Fuzz was in news for their much talked about soundtrack of the Bollywood movie M Cream).
Raghav on the other hand is a singer-songwriter based out of Delhi and has been a part of the music industry for over six years and involved with a lot of diverse musical projects. Currently, he's a part of the second edition of 'The Stage', India's First Ever English Singing TV Show.
Nikhil’s recent soundtrack work for independent feature film "M Cream" helped him gain momentum as a composer, since the movie was well-received throughout the world and earned awards and nominations within some of the planet's major film festivals. His international and exposure to world culture, as well as his kaleidoscopic creativity allowed him to work on his music from a truly unique perspective. Nikhil's creative dualism is really interesting: on one hand, he is fond of the cinematic orchestra vibes of big soundtracks, while on the other hand, he enjoys the punch and power of Hip-hop… and eventually he'll embark on a quest to bring the best of both worlds together! Nikhil is currently working on a lot of interesting projects which include films, bands and commercials.
Raghav has been a part of the music industry for over six years and involved with a lot of diverse musical projects. He was the vocalist of a Delhi-based Progressive Rock band, which was featured as one of 'Five Bands to Watch Out For' by Rolling Stone India. He was also a part of the Delhi-based musical 'Yellow Brick Project'. With a lot of emphasis on lyrics and melody, 'simple and catchy' would be the best way to describe his music.
The duo recently made their debut with an effervescent - Black & White and all things bright- video titled Boring I Love You, this December.
So how did the track happen, between two whimsical collaborators, based out of two different cities. Says Nikhil “The idea of the video came to me when I was sitting in a church, in the summer of 2011. I was looking at a couple talking to each other in sign language. It was really beautiful, the way they were expressing themselves. Ever since then, I wanted to explore this theme and it finally happened with "Boring I Love You. We started the process back in March as a rough idea and got done in November. It roughly took 6 to 7 months, especially because we both don't live in the same city, which makes a lot of back and forth happen. Then, of course, we had a lot of contributors from different parts of the world to contribute to the track with various instruments, such a trumpet player from New York, a violinist from Ireland and so on. Internet has made collaborations pretty easy these days!”
Chips in Raghav “As a singer-songwriter, you're often asked for dedications, tributes to the people you love. The song talks about how you'd never be able to write a song for someone you really love, because it's too cheesy and cliché. A simple, boring 'I love you' should do the trick too! It's ironic because it's ultimately a love song and ends up being the exact same thing! The idea and a part of the lyrics of the song came from a friend Neelie Chikhlikar, and I built on this emotion and lyrics of the song.”
