A musical history is in the making when Yanni, who is this century’s most original and successful composer and musician, performs in India, for the second time in just under two decades. The first of the two shows in India will be held in Chennai and the second in Bangalore.
Seventeen years after Yanni’s first-ever live performance at India’s iconic monument, Taj Mahal, the legendary composer, who performed live for three consecutive nights in March 1997, will be having a live concert — as part of Yanni’s current world tour — at the indoor auditorium of Nehru stadium in Chennai.
Black & White (B&W), which was instrumental in bringing Yanni to West Asia after 14 years, and hosting the living legend and his troupe twice in Muscat and Doha, Qatar, is behind this historic return.
Buoyed by the success of these four shows, B&W is planning to have two shows of Yanni, one in Chennai on April 14 at the Nehru Indoor stadium and one in Bangalore at the White Orchid Convention Centre, near Manyata Tech Park on April 18, this year.
Yanni’s re-entry to India is part of a worldwide tour, which began in March this year, and will take him and his troupe to over 20 countries. They are flying from Sao Paulo to Chennai and after the Bangalore show, he is expected to go to Sri Lanka, then to London, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Munich, Moscow, Prague, Kiev, Tel Aviv, Johannesburg and then the United States of America and Canada. He is accompanied by some of the world’s best-known musicians, state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment.
