Mumbai based Ska Band – The Fanculos release their first EP

Mumbai based Ska band, The Fanculos have just released their first EP – Gangsta TV which contains three extremely high-energy, good-time, chunky tracks, plus a bonus radio edit. The album artwork has been done by AdarshBalak aka Priyesh Trivedi.

The Fanculos was dreamt up by half-Italian, half-Guyanese, British-born musician Ramon Ibrahim Ramon was heavily influenced at an early age by British Ska bands such as The Specials, The Beat, Madness ,etc and set about writing an original set based on his own interpretation of Ska, amongst other things.

The band consists of JJ setting the grooves on the drums, Saurabh Suman slapping the bass, the captivating Ryan Sadri on the tenor sax, Apurv Isaac on guitars/backing vocals and Ramon Ibrahim on vocals, keys and trombone!

The Fanculos set is a mixture of high energy Ska, dub, reggae and funk with the main focus of this five piece band being live performance and audience interaction.

This is the first release from Mumbai SKA band The Fanculos. The band has tried to capture the intensity of their live gigs on this EP by tracking it live and keeping it as real as possible.

Here's the track by track description of the EP by Ramon Ibrahim:

Gangsta TV This was originally inspired by watching a marathon session of Breaking Bad. But as the song evolved I began to see it as a commentary on the “common man’s” absolute belief and faith in the majority of the manufactured rubbish that spews out of the TV (and social media) all over the world. Some seem to want to believe the ridiculous fake news that’s been appearing simply because it’s entertaining.

Nothing To Say This is a very personal song that relates to me speaking my mind more than I should! The song was inspired by a friend of mine being denied their vote in the last major election due to some bureaucratic mess-up. I was so shocked that this could happen in a modern Indian city that when I started to write a song about it. I just got very angry and decided it was best to say nothing at all! Please do listen carefully to the lyrics in this song, and it will all make sense…hopefully!

The Fabulous Fanculos This song is about a troupe of somewhat deformed and unusual-looking, yet fabulous and very talented freak-show performers called "The Fabulous Fanculos". Set in the winter 1954, the scene is a seedy fairground tent just before the main event is about to begin. "The atmosphere electric, present tense beginning to fade, I’ve bought my ticket, gonna join the crazy parade…”

Fun fact: This band had another name when we started out, but we decided to change it to The Fanculos after I wrote this song because it seemed like a better band name!

The EP has been released across platforms on Saavn, iTunes, Spotify, OKListen, Google Play Music, Amazon, Deezer and Spotify.
