UNITE fundraiser: An evening of music for a good cause.

It was coincidence that 7th May 2014 Atma celebrated it’s seventh anniversary with aplomb and grandeur. An evening of music, wine and fun, not forgetting the cause in mind.

UNITE is Atma's annual fundraiser which brings together friends, supporters and all the amazing people who Atma has had the pleasure of knowing, to celebrate their our successes over the year.

Abish Mathew the host for the evening and who doubles up as a standup comedian, regaled one and all with his slick humor and his dig on the various languages in India and on their pronunciation. Ronit Sarkar a.k.a Awkward Bong gave a splendid performance with some amazing covers while VJ and music singer Luke Kenny gave the audience an impressive set of tracks. Mid way an an exciting auction of prizes was held in support of the work of Atma. The biggest bet of all was 2 return tickets on Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong and back. Starting at Rs. 50,000, the lucky winner went home paying Rs. 66,000. Quite a steal we might say. The other prized auctions included a getaway to Grand Hyatt Goa for a 2 night-3 day stay for two persons, a relaxing spa session at the Palladium Hotel Mumbai, a date with upcoming Bollywood actress Pallavi Sharda of Besharam fame and a brunch at a city hotel.

One of the top acts from Mumbai The Other People who has been making a sensation since late, brought the house down with a two hour set taking the audience who comprised of expatriates and Mumbaikars down memory lane with some oldies and classic tracks. The crowd of around 200 partied the night away with free flowing Myra wines and complementing starters.

All proceeds from the event will go towards Atma, a pioneering education non-profit based in Mumbai, which reaches out to over 25,000 underprivileged children across the city. Executive Director Mary Ellen Matsui said, "We are so thankful to all the wonderful performers and sponsors who, not only supported our cause, but also made the evening such a huge success."

This musical extravaganza was co-hosted by Bungalow 9 at their picturesque and charming old-world -meets-contemporary styled venue. Lead vocalist of The Other People- Zarir Warden whose band performed for second consecutive time stated. "We are big supporters of Atma and the exemplary work that they are doing in Mumbai. UNITE is a fantastic event that brings together musicians and music lovers in support of quality education and we are excited to be supporting them for the second year in a row!"
