Sofitel Mumbai marks World Music Day with a musical bouquet.

The world celebrated World Music Day on 21st June 2014, with special music events held all over the world. The Sofitel Hotel in Mumbai wore a festive look. All their restaurants had an array of musically delectable specials for the music lover.

This year the hotel celebrated World Music Day at all its Food and Beverage outlets - Artisan, Jyran, Tuskers and Pondichéry Café. Traditional, modern and contemporary instruments were placed around the hotel. At the Pondichery Café the treble cleft was displayed among a salad display, while guitars were placed at strategic points at the buffet counters. It was a well planned décor for the whole day.

For those who wanted night of jazz and blues, the Artisan set the mood perfectly and served a selection of French cusine along with a special range of pastries, cakes and tapas. If you were looking for some traditional flavor, the Tuskers was the place to be. Four Rajasthani singers performed folk songs, a dance and also a short puppetry item. The speciality here was thali for lunch and dinner. If North Indian was what you were looking for you had northern influenced cuisine at the Jyran to relish an exquisite Awadhi spread paired with a delightful jugalbandhi. Lastly, a mix of Classic rock and pop resounded at The Pondichery Café over lunch and dinner.

Among those who performed at these events were Anand Vaity, James Miranda, Reuel Benedict and Dilip Bhatt. Maliaka Barot gave a fabulous performance when she took the mic at the Pondichery Café and crooned to Coldplay’s ‘Yellow’.

Mr. Biswajit Chakraborthy, General Manager, Sofitel Mumbai BKC commented, “Launched in France back in the summer of 1982 the festival was created to mark the rise of Mercury. Being a French brand of international hotels, Sofitel takes pride in amalgamating this cultural event. Encouraging both amateur and professional musicians to showcase their talents, the day has crossed the milestone and has become a moment of expression. Unbounded by age, gender or creed, the carnival brings everyone in a musical melting pot.”
