8 years, 10 shows, 3 cities and 100+ acts later – Control ALT Delete, India’s largest crowd-funded DIY music festival, is back.
This year, Control ALT Delete will feature 2 days, 5 stages and 45+ artists in the unbelievably green and serene space of Roaring Farm, Malad on March 9-10, 2019. Roaring Farm is a repurposed motocross track spread across 6 acres in a farm in Malad, Mumbai. It has hosted Control ALT Delete 10 as well and is a unique sprawling space with what is rare to find in the city: abundant green cover, a lake around which the camps will be set up, and plenty of space.
Independent music across the country is evolving into its own little communities, sub-genres and subcultures. Control ALT Delete aims to represent and showcase all of these burgeoning scenes while giving the power back to where it belongs – to the listener. The lineup for Control ALT Delete this year has been announced, spanning across 5 stages: Sidestand (alternative, indie stage), Survive This (heavy metal stage), Mumbai 95 (hip hop and cypher stage), Synths & Strings (singer-songwriter, ambient, pop music stage) and Electric Jungle (live hip hop, electronica).
Control ALT Delete has also announced camping for the first time ever on days of the festival. The campsite will be managed by Carvan Trips, an award-winning travel and experiential company from Mumbai, that will be setting up the campsite within the venue itself. There will also be stalls selling food, drinks, merchandise and more on the festival site.
A 'Pay What You Want' model has been the bedrock of Control ALT Delete’s philosophy since its inception. This is the outlook that has allowed Control ALT Delete to be an inclusive and safe space for music fans from all walks of life irrespective of their economic status. Everyone who believes that music and the work of musicians has value, and wants to experience cultural and musical freedom is welcome. Contributors can simply visit www.controlaltdelete.in and make their contributions. They can also check the contribution slabs and avail certain perks on their contribution amounts.
Control ALT Delete has a no logo policy and all sponsors are the contributors, actual people and not brands, who make this happen year on year. Thanks to the support and trust of everyone who makes CAD happen, the festival has grown from a small gig to a two-day, multi-stage showcase year on year. That trust is solely because of the festival’s curation and complete transparency when it comes to the finances.
Nikhil Udupa, partner at Control ALT Delete spoke about the ethic behind the festival. He said, "Control ALT Delete is about handing the power back to the audience, to the fans. It’s about giving them a space to experience the music they like on their own terms. We make the audience the most important stakeholder in the festival and they take back not just an amazing musical experience but a sense of belonging to a community of unbiased music lovers."
Each rupee contributed is accounted for and accounts of all shows are shared on public platforms for people to evaluate, question and hopefully get inspired to start their own scenes
