Much before Gully Boy and MC Sher, there was wedding rapper MC Sid aka Siddharth Sood, who has been adding the much-needed dose of modernity into Indian weddings with his rap style since 2007.
With a self-titled album to his credit that has raked up over 2 lakh plays on Saavn and a video of his hit number Maa from the album to release soon, it is safe to say not diamonds, but MC Sid is the must-have wedding accessory.
MC Sid is going to launch a new track on the occasion of Mother's Day. Maa is a simple song inspired by mother's never ending support through thick and thin.
Sood's rap journey started in the early 2000s when he was slim and not-so-shady with a love rap for a childhood crush. With the ladies digging his rap game, the young Sid, an Eminem fan and self-confessed 'Delhi Boy' finessed his rap game and got his first break at a cousin's sangeet. He says, "Everyone there was smashed but thought that my rap rhymes were kinda cute and that I was doing this ‘Apache Indian Thing’ as my masi called it."
One thing led to another and soon, Siddharth Sood the 'Delhi Boy' transformed into MC Sid, the rapper who spit fire rhymes in night clubs across India and even did the opening act for the first-ever concert by Akon in India in 2011.
Sood has come a long way from his 'Shaadi rapper' debut at ITC Grand wearing baggy clothes, baseball cap and gold chains. Now, he 'suits up' for his wedding hip-hop performances and gives the newly-weds the best wedding gift- a personalized rap song peppered with loads of humour and comedy.
He says, "I have travelled and performed at weddings across the globe and have become popular at some of the most famous destination weddings in Goa, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur in India and Bangkok, Hua Hin, Colombo, Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Malaga, Bali, Sydney, San Francisco, Prague, Antalya and many more such exotic locations."
