Balwant Singh Namdhari of the Namdhari Gharana along with several of his colleagues arranged and recreated the sound of the classical thumris of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan - Yaad Piya Ki Aaye while Zubin Balaporia part of Indus Creed band collaborated with Grammy award winner fame Vijay Prakash famed Jai ho on Khulay Asmaan ki Oar a tribute to the brave officers of IAF for the film ‘The Great Indian Escape’.
The film is based on an Indian Air Force - a riveting tale of true grit of Flt Lt Dilip Parulkar who inspired 2 more POW Pilots Flt Lt MS Grewal ‘Garry’ and Flt Lt Harish Sinhji 'Harry' to partake with him in the most outrageous prison break in the history of the Indian Defence Services.
The situations in the film required a special kind of understanding of Indian Classical music to recreate the era and sound of the 70s especially when it came to enhancing the emotional family sequences. The vocals of the thumris combined with the melodic playing of the Dilruba accompanied to the beats of tabla and at some places the Jori Pakhawaj lend a unique blend of Indian and Western amalgamation to the soundtrack of the film.
The films title song Khulay Aasman ki Oar showcases how IAF officers escaped from a POW prison in Pakistan. Song Yaad Piya ki Aaye showcases the pain and the longing of a dear one brought forth beautifully by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahab and sung soulfully by Avtar Kaur Namdhari. The song has been portrayed beautifully, and all those who have heard it is not only gushing over her voice and the lyrics but also the amazing scenic landscape it has been shot at.
The film ‘The Great Indian Escape’ will release on 24th June 2019
