‘Namo’ an album by world fusion band Namo Fusion

Namo is an ancient Sanskrit word which means to bow down with respect. Through its compositions, the band Namo Fusion aims to use music to spread the importance of respect. It represents various emotions from happiness to pathos, with undertones of spirituality.

The brainchild of violinist Dr Narayan Raman and guitarist Sarosh Izedyar, Namo Fusion has released its first studio album ‘Namo’. The album, released under the Namo Music label, will be available worldwide on all digital platforms from 27th August, 2019. The music is a warm blend of Hindustani and Carnatic scales with western riffs and percussion loops. The musicians have used a techno feel while retaining the essence of Indian classical music, thus making it a world music album with a different feel.

Besides Dr Raman and Izedyar, the musicians comprise I.D. Rao on saxophone and clarinet, Vaibhav Jadhav on bass and George Joseph, who has remixed the Namo track to create Namo Reprise.

All tunes have been composed, arranged and programmed by Dr Narayan Raman and Sarosh Izedyar. The album has been recorded by Smitesh Joshi at Ear Drums Studios, Worli, Mumbai, and mixed by Tanay Gujjar at Wow and Flutter Studios, Andheri, Mumbai. It has been mastered by Grammy award - winning Phil Nicolo at Studio 4 Recording, Philadelphia, US.

Dr Raman says this album is about his journey as a musician, composer and songwriter. He adds,”Having worked with my close friend Sarosh Izedyar has given me great satisfaction and has taught me a lot when it comes to music. There is a great sense of achievement when it comes to our album Namo.”

Izedyar says, “I'm very happy we could put this together. Narayan and I have known each other for over 30 years and this entire process has given us immense satisfaction. Happy listening!"

Here is a track by track detail of the album’s 6 songs.

Relay Express:  Adapted from a combination of two pentatonic ragas, a conceptual tune similar to a relay race, wherein a musical phrase is played by one and passed on to the second, who plays another phrase and passes it on to the third, and so on, till the finale is achieved, showing the importance of teamwork.

Departed Souls: Adapted from raga Panthuvarali, known to evoke meditative and sympathetic moods, it’s dedicated to all departed souls who have played an important role in our lives.

Namo (Reprise): A club mix of the Namo track.
