Electronic music producer Disco Puppet releases ‘Aranyer Dinratri’ with tour this month

Red Bull Presents a 3-city tour with electronic music producer Disco Puppet (aka Shoumik Biswas) in support of his new album Aranyer Dinratri. The album is out now on all streaming platforms

Disco Puppet’s third full-length studio album, Aranye Dinratri gets its name from a 1970 Satyajit Ray film. Biswas first saw the film in 2016, after which he began to take an active interest in Ray’s works. These movies became a window into understanding his own personal history and art. He began to understand his attraction to seemingly insignificant details of daily life, the way people interact and the longing for human contact. Although his work always explored these themes, this was the first time he became aware of it.

A follow-up to the acclaimed Princess ThisAranye Dinratri runs 40 minutes and is presented in a stream of consciousness format – where tracks flow into one other building a linear narrative – one of search and self-discovery.

Disco Puppet has been releasing music since 2014. In 2016, he released Spring EP, via Consolidate Records. In the beginning of 2017, Disco Puppet received the TOTO Funds the Arts Award for music. Later that year, he self-released his first full-length album, I’m Going Home. In March 2017, he did a six-city tour in China. A few months later, he released his second full-length album, Princess This, via Consolidate Records. Disco Puppet also featured on a track with Zed Bias, released on Exit Records in 2017. He has just released his third full-length album, Aranye Dinratri.

His sound is characterised by its irreverence towards the stylistic and procedural dictates of genres and their purists. This stems partly from ideology, but mostly from a tendency to get easily bored. But cerebral as his work is, he matches it with heart. His experiments, though nearly scientific in their rigour, are always essentially human.

He will play live in Mumbai on 4th October, Delhi on 11th October and Bengaluru on 12th October. The three shows will not be regular electronic music gigs, he has created a theatrical performance complete with sets, visuals, light design and an actor/movement artist.
