Sonam Kalra & The Sufi Gospel Project release a new, uptempo single called ‘Aflat’

Sonam Kalra is a musician with a message and Baba Bulleh Shah’s words resonate with her because of the poet talks of the importance of inclusion.  Once again, through her music Sonam Kalra sends out a strong statement of the need for acceptance of all people and religions.

The song Aflat is a foot tapping, original composition that combines sounds that are Sufi and Irish folk at the same time creating, once again, a unique, new sound, something that Sonam Kalra & The Sufi Gospel Project are synonymous with. The song has a distinct sense of celebration and happiness about it as it celebrates a very simple truth that your temple, your shrine, your church and your mosque are not within the four walls of a building, but within the walls of your heart and the walls of the heart of the person next to you. And that love, is the greatest religion of them all.

This song is based on the poetry of 16th Century Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah, who believed that a love of God implied a love of all Humanity. This kalaam (poem) and its celebration of oneness ring true with Sonam Kalra and her pure and powerful vocals combined with the experimentation of Indian instruments being played by her accompanying musicians to sound almost Gaelic in nature is exhilerating.
