India’s post-rock band aswekeepsearching, drops the first song Let Us Try off their fourth album, an extension to 2019’s ‘Rooh’ (September 2019).
Known for emotive shows, aswekeepsearching is all set to surprise fans with their upcoming album ‘sleep’ (out April 17th). The world’s first Hindi post-rock band brings a new way of experiencing music with each album. The quartet from Pune and Mumbai are following up their game-changing third album ‘Rooh’ with an extension of ambient, electronic and gentle post-rock for themselves and their fans’ playlists. The vivid first song from the album was Let Us Try and was released on 27th March.
“This album makes me believe in the present, the only thing that should matter. When I was busy worrying about my future and analyzing the past, I missed out how important it is to be where the body is” says vocalist and guitarist Uddipan Sarmah. Even in these tough times for the music industry, this is not a regular album promotion cycle nor is it an ordinary album by any stretch of the imagination. Bassist Robert Alex adds, “This album has come at a very apt time in my life, where I’m giving more importance to myself, my health, the relationships with the people who are important to you. I hope ‘sleep’ will be a comfort for others, as it has been for me.”
Guitarist, producer and keyboardist Shubham Gurung says they’re trying to explore the sonic realmand therapeutic possibilities of ambient music with ‘sleep’. Harboring their love for everyonefrom Tycho and Caspian to Hammock, aswekeepsearching look inward more than ever across eightstrikingly meditative tracks, for mental wellness and a safe space for their (and their fans) minds.
Their first record with drummer and percussionist Sambit Chatterjee, his role is often subtle but indispensable, much like regular collaborator and producer-violinist Ajay Jayanthi. Chatterjee, known for his work with metal band What Escapes Me, says, “This is just a beginning, of us making this world of music which is not just about loudness and excitement, but rather about calmness and understanding. This music helps me understand myself and I’m proud of us for taking this unexpected step.”
There are also new immersive visuals the band has worked on with brilliant filmmakers and graphic artists in India, creating artwork and videos for each track. More singles will be out every week, followed by a behind-the-scenes look at how aswekeepsearching got involved with India’s rising filmmaker talent.
