Kashmir's finest, Ahmer Javed, returns with a scorching new single that embodies the resilience of the Kashmiri community currently experiencing one of the most brutal crackdowns in recent memory. Titled Zor , the self-produced single features veteran MC and social activist Delhi Sultanate who draws parallels between the state's violent dismantling of the resistance in Kashmir and theanti-CAA protests that spread like wildfire across the country prior to the outbreak of the Covid-19pandemic. The single is out on all major streaming platforms now, along with a video by Jatin Prabhakar.
With the unlawful and arbitrary detention of activists such as Safoora Zargara, Devanagana Ka111tila (Pinjra Tod), Asif Sultan, Sudha Bharadwaj, Mahesh Raut and many others, the full extent of state's fear of people trying to hold it to account is finally out in the open, and at times like this, voices and efforts on part of artists like Ahmer and Delhi Sultanate help preserve the principles that we fight for.
Ahmer hopes to provide a nuanced and emotionally charged narrative of the valley. Ahmer is a prolific rapper and producer from Srinagar, Kashmir. Since a young age, Ahmer has been acutely aware of the violence that plagues that valley, and his lyrics reflect a self-critical and self-aware artist that is trying to make sense of one of the most complex issues of our time.
By diving deep into his and his family's history in the valley and ongoing events every other day, Ahmer manages to introduce to people the complexities of the Kashmiri people and provides a more holistic view of their society. Ahmer’s debut album ‘Little Kid, Big Dreams’ was produced by Sez On The Beat and takes a deep dive into situation in Kashmir, from the beginning of the independence struggle and the call for Azadi, to the crackdown on its citizens and the creation of an environment where society stands desperate, without hope and bereft of unity. Ahmer’s mixtape titled Inqalab was recorded during the curfew in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 by the Indian Government in August 2019. He released a single Ghazi in January this year.
