Varun Kapadia, better known by his stage-name Mizuchi, is a 21 year old Mumbai/Boston based rapper-producer who takes his pseudonym from a legendary Japanese water dragon. Alongside being a full-time psychology student at Tufts University in Boston, Mizuchi is also a recording artist, Hip-Hop producer, and songwriter.

A jack of all trades, he also doubles up as an entrepreneur, designer, and content creator. Currently juggling the roles of being a student and a self-made musician, Mizuchi is also the co-founder and creative director of YV Streetwear (pronounced 'Yeev'), a clothing venture he started alongwith his best friend.

Recently he released his new EP titled ‘Myth’ in 2020. “My new EP is called Myth, and it talks about the myth about being an artiste, especially an artiste in India,” says the singer who has two albums under his belt already namely the seven track album ‘All My Spirits’ (2018) and the twelve track ‘The Kid In the House’ (2019) that garnered 1,00,000 streams. The new four-track EP, which draws from trap and R&B, questions and grapples with his identity as an Indian rapper and all the baggage that comes with it.

Early on, Mizuchi was imitating Western hip-hop and trap artistes a lot, but soon realized that he didn’t want to do that with this EP. He decided to bring in some ethnic sounds into his music, especially from the production side. This resulted in the track Sunroof, which incorporates some bansuri tunes, and in the song Bombay, which uses sitar and tablas. The EP has hit the Apple Music Top 40 charts alongside artists like Travis Scott and Juice WRLD within just few weeks of its release.

Mizuchi states that he loves listening to Kanye West, Jerry Lorenzo, and Lucien Clarke who portray his style of music. He is also a fan of artists such as Amine and rapper Eminem.

Going back in time, Mizuchi started his music journey from an early age, when he began writing his own songs at the age of 14, and started releasing songs on SoundCloud by the age of 17. Drawing inspiration from various genres, the rapper/producer describes his music as hip-hop with a fusion of distinct styles combined with ethnic elements, staying true to his roots.

Currently, Mizuchi is working on his next big music project - a full-length album and has multiple other ventures in the spheres of fashion and art to look forward to as well.
