“It is important to be a fine human being” Dancer Anil Kumar Singh

There is a rampant increase of male classical dancers in India, which is quite encouraging but there are very few with a vision to move ahead and to have a holistic perspective of performing arts for the betterment and welfare of the arts fraternity all over the world. In order to spotlight this aspect.

Guru Vijay Shanker throws light on the young brilliant Bharata natyam and Rabindra Nritya exponent, choreographer, arts visionary and the founder director of Kalasuabhivyakti.com Mr. Anil Kumar Singh.

According to the Holy Scriptures and the "shastras". It is believed that if a person pursues and practises classical music or dance with complete devotion, then indeed he is a blessed soul. The classical arts of music and dance are the best medium to reach out to the supreme by surrendering yourself completely at the lotus feet of the Almighty. Amidst the four types of Abhinaya. "Sattvika abhinaya" holds supreme as it is the personification of divinity, which is the mainstay of classical dance.

Classical dance and music is based on the stories of Hindu mythology which is presented to the "rasikas"(audience) through different styles and technique of varied movements blending well with varied expressions, gestures and gestures in order to unfold different stories in an elegant and aesthetic presentation.

In other words classical dance is a fine art that includes psychology, philosophy, body technique, mathematics, sculpture, painting, histrionics and other faculties that make this art form solid and substantial, not easy to master.

The great dancer Dr Rukmini Devi Arundale had remarked, "I have spent a lifetime in classical dance and still there is much more for me to learn." Taking this perspective ahead, it is really gratifying to note that Anil Kumar Singh's perception is quite broad based, hence the inception of the portal Kalasuabhivyakti.com Anil says, "I have been dancing since childhood and hail from a business family which is not connected with the arts but it is my consistence and passion that has ultimately paid off. After performing several shows both in India and abroad, I have realized that something solid needs to be done about the arts scenario, particularly in India, while in western countries everything is so well organized. There are impresarios, marketing team and organizations to guide you but here in India there is hardly anything like that, dancers who are affluent with top social contacts get the maximum performances in India and abroad. There are a handful of dancers who are repeatedly performing for decades together; there are several brilliant young dancers who are hardly known with no proper exposure. If dancers don’t get proper platforms at the right time, one does one rise on to become a top performer, it is a vicious circle. Firstly one needs to become a fine human being with concern and respect for other artists. In a particular festival which was organized by a dancer occupied more time and then the dancers who were invited from other cities had to wait till late night to get a chance to perform, which is rather unfair, if you invite a particular dancer to perform, you must give the time stipulated for her, you should reduce the time. Strangely some dancers feel the more time you consume, the superior performer you would become. Infact it is quality of the performance and not the quantity that ultimately matters”.

He adds, “Classical dancers unlike movie stars do not get much media attention or exposure, hence this is a step forward to provide them the platform and exposure they deserve by not only publishing articles but also showcasing their talent through video clippings of their performances. Veterans in the field would also teach and guide aspirants and young dancers. Eventually this would become an international platform for all performing artists all over the world in different styles".

Anil Kumar Singh along with Dr Tushar Guha's Nrityanjali team has several performances around the globe to his credit. Besides Rabindra Nritya, he is also trained in Bharata natyam by late J.S.Bansal, Sumitra Rajguru and Guru Rajee Narayan, Anil is also an actor trained from Anupam Kher's An Actor Prepares. Besides several national honours and accolades, the international honours for Anil include Kalakar Samman from Nritya Sanskruti Performing Arts Centre. Colombo. Sri Lanka, Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and Netaji Subash Chandra Bose India Cultural Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Guru Vijay Shanker is a professional Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Bharata natyam exponent, dance teacher, choreographer, actor and eminent arts critic for over four decades based in Mumbai.
