After his first release of an art song, renowned guitarist Ravi Iyer recently released yet another Art Song (Poem with spoken words) featuring K.C. Loy, a performing artist, lyricist, and song-writer - director.
Close your Umbrellas is a thought-provoking inspirational poem penned by Ravi Iyer’s grandfather, a writer, philosopher and poet sans name and fame, V.S. Arunachalam (24th April 1897 - 30th August 1956).
Though many of his profound works were published during his time, quite a few remained locked in a box of anonymity. Bringing these gems into the sunlight of this new world has become Ravi’s passion… his raison d'être. Perusing through these pages from a bygone era, you’ll be surprised by the seamless connect with life today.
The poem, Close your Umbrellas particularly speaks about shedding our fears in life and the blinders that society has thrown over our mind, urging us out of the closet only to rediscover our truer self.
Says Iyer, “The old-school English used through these works amplifies a sense of lost romanticism; the choice of words that rhythmically fall like the proverbial ‘Pearls of wisdom’, promises to vibrate with each one of us… even today”.
Iyer has sound designed this poem with his musical offering converting it into an Art Song and has had the unbeatable K.C. Loy narrating, justifying the ethos of the poem. He will soon be releasing an exclusive feature on the journey of his granddad spanning from the period of 1919, the year he touched this city of Mumbai (Bombay back then).
The music video is available across all music streaming platforms worldwide like Spotify, Apple Music and also on Ravi Iyer’s YouTube channel.
