Teamwork presents `Going Solo’–award-winning theater from the Edinburgh Festival

The ability of a single artist to captivate and hold the audience riveted has been one of the great performing traditions. To savor an inspiring and engaging theatrical experience, Teamwork Arts brings India’s only International Theatre Festival of Solo Acts “Going Solo” that boasts of some of the most critically acclaimed and compelling solo performances. Going Solo, slated to start from October 9 will be held over three weeks in four cities (Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Mumbai) will bring together award winning and extraordinary solo acts by the internationally celebrated artists from the UK. Many productions that will be staged in India have been showcased at the acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe Festival, a gathering of the World’s best theatre productions.

Going solo with its thought provoking productionsbrilliant scripts and evocative themes will captivate audienceand create an enriching experience for theatre lovers. The festival is a fine exampleof Teamwork’s deep understanding of traditional and contemporary performing arts. This second edition of the annual festival adds another feather in the cap for Teamwork Arts’ who produce 23 annual festivals in 12 countries in 21 cities including the world’s largest literary gathering – the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival and Hay Festival in Kerala.

Commenting on the upcoming edition of Going Solo, Sanjoy Roy, Managing Director Teamwork Arts and Festival Director said; “This year’s primary theme explores the challenges of human nature and our spirit of survival. Exploring the pain, the joy the highs and lows of being marginalized or discriminated against, the plays are a celebration of the human spirit”

As we commemorate Shakespeare’s 400th death anniversary in 2016, Shylock demonstrates the universal popularity and relevance of the Bard’s work over time. Highlighting the UK’s leading role in Arts and Disability, we are pleased to collaborate on presenting If These Spasms Could Speak and Don’t Wake Me in India. These works will doubtless open up dialogue on the transformative power of the Arts in society. We wish the second edition of Going Solo all success.”

After its triumphant first season last year, Going SOLO in 2014 promises to bea unique experience. Post the enthralling performances by artists like Pip Utton and Jailoshini Naidoo last year, the forthcoming season of Going SOLO will expose the theatre enthusiasts to an incredible piece of theatre by some of the most charming narrators in the industry. Artists like Guy Masterson and Robert Softley will grab the audience’s attention with a stunning display of glorious and moving performances. The festival shall showcase three plays namely Shylock (Guy Masterson), If These Spasms Could Speak (Robert Softly) and Don’t Wake Me (Jaye Griffiths).

The Going Solo International Festival presented in association with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, British Council and other partners will begin on 9th October 2014 in Delhi and will travel to Kolkata and Bengaluru before commencing with its final performance in Mumbai on October 22nd 2014. The festival shall also hold full program of corporate shows and day long intensive workshopsfor anyone who is interested in learning about the craft from professionals performing around the world.
