15th September, 2021Mumbai-based duo Cryosis releases their fifth dance-pop single Broken on New York City-based dance label Brooklyn Fire Records.Their latest release follows their popular singles Breathe, Stay and You Make Me which gained popularity in the USA, Brazil, Indonesia and India. Their singles have garnered over 1,000,000 streams, and were exclusively featured on Vh1 India. Their most popular single Breathe charted as high as #6 on Vh1’s weekly top 10
Broken, as with Cryosis’ past singles, takes on a unique style and approach, drawing inspiration from Pop and Electronic music, fused with elements reminiscent of 50s Hollywood cinema and soundscaping. Broken features passionate yet delicate vocals intertwined with contemporary electronic drums, synth bass, and morphed vocal samples; laced with sounds from vintage pianos, music boxes, and carefully arranged strings. Cryosis blends emotive vocals and instrumentation to delineate sadness, success and passion in one cinematic ride through sound.
"Broken is scathing. It draws inspiration from classic rise-fall-rise-again stories we’ve been told and followed all our lives. Lyrically, it explores themes surrounding the duality that lies in ‘success’, while delivering an unsheathed tale of isolation, fame and its counterparts" states the duo.
“What we wanted most both lyrically and sonically was passion, dynamics, and heaps of emotion - with a sense of tasteful sensualism”, states the duo. The music video was conceptualised and directed by Siddhant, who drew inspiration from his favorite noir classics to create a storyline that screams drama - a glimpse into the life of fame-induced success and all that comes with it. Cryosis stars in the video as characters in this story, Broken being their first foray into acting.
“Lyrics for Broken were almost complete when we began production. Our approach is always to showcase the lead melody, and support the universe it lives within. Sometimes this universe can sound a lot more visual; in this case inspiring the use of sound effects and a background-score style treatment to arrangement” adds the duo.
Hailing from Mumbai, India, Cryosis is an electro-pop duo composed of multi-instrumentalist Siddhant Mishra and singer-songwriter Aakanksha H. They were first discovered at the Amsterdam Dance Event Mumbai demo listening session, and by the following year's ADE, they won the prestigious ADE "Demolition Panel," chosen as the best demo in all of ADE Mumbai. Since then they have become an electronic-pop sensation in India and beyond.
