Martian Scape’s debut track ‘Mariner 9’ takes you on a psychedelic exploration of space

Mars has fascinated man since the beginning of time, a planet with a mystical aura that could hold the secrets of extraterrestrial life and divinity itself. With the advent of space exploration came the opportunity to finally look beyond the shroud of secrecy that surrounded the red planet, capturing the imagination of explorers and mystics alike.

Named after the first spacecraft to orbit Mars, Mariner 9 takes the listener along for a ride into the unknown. The song conveys the suspense, unease, trepidation, and finally excitement of exploring an alien world. Producer Vishal J Singh uses an interplay of unsettling electronic sounds with the backdrop of drum and bass to leave you with an unsettling buildup of tension. The sci-fi ambience of the electronic beat is infused with the mysticism of Tamara Kazziha’s violin sections and shamanic vocal melodies reminiscent of ancient rituals.

Mariner 9 asks whether there is life on Mars, but uses no words, amplifying the isolation from human touch one might feel in a spacecraft flying into the unknown. The arrangement of the track progresses just like a story, as if disclosing secrets through musical means. The buildup, mystery and mysticism is finally brought to a head in the last section with the drum and bass providing resolution to the journey the listener has gone through.

"Mariner 9 is our first release as Martian Scape. It has two parallel ways to hear and see. The electronic music parts symbolize the astronomical part whereas Tamara's vocals and violin symbolize the astrological part. The track opens up into different sections by adding/changing layers after layers which is like disclosing secrets(astronomically) and understanding the mysticism(astrologically). Genre-wise, we experimented combining ambient music with fusion elements and a pinch of DnB and Glitch." – says producer and composer Vishal J.Singh about Mariner 9.

Martian Scape is an electronic, psychedelic duo with mesmerizing folk influences. It is composed of producer Vishal J.Singh and vocalist and violinist Tamara Kazziha, who bring their different worldviews and musical influences to create music that is thoughtful, emotive and heartfelt.

Tamara Kazziha is a half Egyptian, half Scottish violinist and vocalist specializing in improvisation in a variety of genres such as Classical, Electronic, Celtic Folk. She has been playing and singing for the past 16 years and has trained in Classical and Cultural folk music at The Royal Academy of Music and Drama in Scotland. She has been traveling for the past 10 years, playing and performing with different artists from Portugal, Egypt, the US, England and Eastern Europe. She has performed as the violinist and vocalist in Monkey Puzzle, a live 6 piece electronica band based in the UK and as the violinist in Aeyther, a classical neo-folk band. She has co-composed the music for 'The Vampire Rabbit,' a musical theater production performed in England and has largely taken part in composing and performing for musical theater productions in the UK. She is also working on her own project to combine multiple cultural influences and genres into her own songwriter and violin playing.

The track is released by No Binary, a label that has made an art of releasing out of the box music and innovative tracks that don’t quite fit into genres.

Mariner 9 will be available on all streaming platforms from October 15th, with links available on the artist and label Instagram accounts.
