Mumbai-based model and artist, Naisha, shows off her new avatar as a singer-songwriter, with her debut single, Kamikaze, via Export Quality Records, the record label arm of Third Culture Entertainment. With an easy-breezy, dreamy vibe, this R&B/Pop track sets the mood with its sonic lightness. Composed and co-produced by Naisha herself, Kamikaze celebrates her indulgence in self-love, self-appreciation, and her identity as a brown girl.
Naisha grew up listening to strong, beautiful women with an unapologetic view about life and freedom, such as Stephanie Mills, Lauryn Hill, Nina Simone and more. Kamikaze is filled with that femme energy and inspired by instances from Naisha’s life, seeing herself and the women around her go through all they do, never being acknowledged or appreciated.
“It came to me on a day when I wasn't feeling my best and felt bogged down by outside noise. Often you don't give yourself credit for how you’ve survived, balanced and evolved through life. Kamikaze helped me take a second to think about myself and give myself love and appreciation that isn’t coming from outside. This is just me trying to remind girls that they are unique, and it’s going to be alright. When the whole world is telling you so much about how to be and do things, take a minute, you are amazing and you're on the right path. It’s a love letter from me to every brown girl struggling to love herself because of societal pressure and conventional norms” - Naisha
While being weightless on the ears, Kamikaze’s lyrics read into not only the art of self-love but its relevance as a practice. Written as a love letter to herself and all the women who keep living and doing their thing, Kamikaze'svocals and production fill the room with a euphoric sound making it a warm, comfortable listen and creating an audible pathway towards creating an intimate experience of personal truth.
