Raman Iyer and Shrikant Sreenivasan release first track of 2022

After Dil Dariya, a meditative song with lyrics by the 17th Century mystic Hazrat Sultan Bahoo and featuring Jasleen Aulakh, Nikhil Rao (Indian Ocean) and Pooja Mazoomdar (Leslee Lewis Band, Sona Live) which is now in multiple playlists, Raman Iyer (Former founding member, Kabir Cafe) and Shrikant Sreenivasan (Coshish) have teamed up once again. The duo have also roped in Yatharth Ratnum, Satej Karandikar, Anish Nair and D.A Vasanth on the song. So what you get is a song in Kannada, a complete contemplative experience in the much needed space of self reflection.

The track Sakala Bhaya - All Our Insecurities is a conversation which our inner self, our conscience, attempts to have with us.“I heard this bhajan as a 15 year old while studying in Ramakrishna Vidyashala Mysore. I had to perform it on stage. It was sung by Late Swami Purushottamanda. At that age the lyrics didn't make much sense, but the melody stuck with me. And as I grew up, the song kept appearing like a background score while different situations tempered me with experience. Sometime in late 2021, I felt a strong urge to recreate this one, at least for myself. I suggested this to Shrikant and he took to it instantly, even roping in Yatharth Ratnum to sing this, and also bringing his bandmate from Coshish, Anish Nair to play bass.” says Raman Iyer.

Adds Shrikant, “I had never worked on a song like Sakala Bhaya before. When Raman told me about it, I didn't think twice. Mainly because of the way the song spoke to me, like a guru talking to a devotee. It hit me differently and working on this song was so fluent as if it’s not just me who is doing it. I was so sure about Yatharth’s voice and Anish’s bass work in the song because they understand these aspects and are in the same wavelength as Raman and I are when it comes to life. I am so glad we did something like this together and I believe this song has come to us with a specific purpose. ”

This is the 6th track Raman and Shrikant have collaborated together, after the instrumentals Warrior’s Lullaby and Viraha, both part of Raman’s 5 track album ‘Midnight Musings’ and ‘The Mandolin’ and ‘Dil Dariya’ as a salute to Covid Heroes.

They’ve also composed two songs for UNICEF India Baba Tumhi Jaise for Father’s day in Hindi and Namito Tula a tribute to Anganwadi Workers in Marathi, which was released by Ms. Yashomati Thakur, Minister of State for Women & Child Development, Government of Maharashtra on 23rd September 2021. The song is sung by Yatharth Ratnum (Winner, The Stage, Season 1), Flute by Satej Karandikar, bass guitars by Anish Nair (Coshish) and additional programming by D.A. Vasanth (The Musical Rowdy),
